Contract bridge has proved popular with politicians, and over the years there have been several very good bridge players amongst the occupants of the House of Commons and "The Other Place". The greatest of all British bridge playing politicians was Iain Macleod - Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gold Cup winner and one of the founder members of the Acol system.
