. . . and there is the clue. You must hope that North has spade9 and finesse spade8 at trick four! This gives you the vital extra entry and after diamondJ, spadeA,diamondK there is still spadeK available to access diamondA and the two winning clubs.

Note that North can thwart declarer by inserting spade9 when West leads spade2 at trick four. When the hand was originally played West ruffed in with spade10 at trick three, but I think the jack would have been psychologically better - creating the subconscious possibility in North's mind that South holds spade10.
