He immediately ruffed a club with dummy's last trump, and then took the diamond finesse. West took diamondQ, cashed heartA and exited with a club. With dummy devoid of entries heartK was a useless winner and South lost another diamond to record minus 100. You may think this line a poor alternative and therefore South wasn't unlucky, but declarer was one of Europe's best players.. maybe there's hope for the rest of us.
