If you play the hand through in your mind then the problem becomes apparent. You win the diamond switch and play a trump, unblocking the queen if necessary, so South wins and exits with another diamond. You win this and play another trump - but South wins and exits with a club. Now you are fixed - there is no way back to hand to play another round of trumps and you must concede either a spade trick or diamond ruff.
