Had East retained heart10x and abandoned diamonds then West would be forced to hold onto diamondJxx and the bare heartK .. in which case you would have led a low heart to secure your slam.

This was the four card end position. Sure enough 6spade made an overtrick in the other room so the dodgy bidding and your good card reading limits the damage to one IMP.
