I don't know how North-South played 3heart - a spade fit and singleton heart à la Splinter? Maybe the South hand isn't quite good enough, but it's an interesting thought. More natural alternatives might be 1spade (I'm clinically depressed), 2spade (I'm a pessimist), 3spade (I play the cards well) or 4spade (I play the cards very well but I'm a punter). 3spade was chosen at the table and North powered the bidding onto the slam.
