Declarer made no mistake by leading a club winner (actually a deceptive nine). If South ruffed the dummy could overuff and spade5 would be there for a diamond discard. If South discarded then it would be safe to play a trump. Why not play a trump immediately? Because North would win heartA and give his partner a trump promotion, with diamondA as the setting trick.
Perhaps North ought to have switched to a diamond at trick three - someone out there can tell me if the defence prevails! The four hands with six cards left .....
