Declarer led a club to the king and a second singleton queen appeared! heartA was cashed and spade6 was ducked to East, effectively end-playing him. Although East exited with spade8 (best), with West known to be 4-4-4-1 declarer had no problems reading the situation correctly.

Play at the other table began in the same way, but at trick three declarer chose to play a club to the jack. On winning with the queen West switched unerringly to spade10 and declarer was finished.
