I recently played with a very good player who prefers to open huge but awkward shape hands at the one level. This leaves 2 available for the real monsters of the more straightforward variety. If you look at the deal on March 25^th you will see a big hand that I decided was worth 2, whereas my partner would have preferred me to open 1.

In today's deal, West had a similar dilemma about an opening bid.
