diamond9 was chosen and it held the trick! Declarer ruffed a club and played a second diamond to the jack, won by West's ace. A club was ruffed and the two diamond winners cashed, ending in hand. All that remained was to guess the spades correctly. From the discards it appeared that East had fewer clubs, so North led spadeJ. East made life easy by playing low and all that remained was for declarer to lead towards spadeQ for the vital trick. Note that one off would not have been a bad result - East-West could make ten tricks in clubs.
