I suspect circumspect players would opt for 3spade, whereas the practical and bravest of you will bid 3NT! After all, spadeQx is a good holding opposite partner's Jxx, Kxx or Axx. The most ambitious among you might try 4club, just what partner doesn't want to hear! North's 3club was rather forced - after all, 3NT could be played by the wrong hand and or easy slam might go begging.

Looking at the two hands, no doubt you would want to play in 3NT from the South hand, but what if you were desperate for a top and reached an overambitious 6diamond? Try it from the North hand on heartQ lead. You make a faultless start by winning with the ace.
