^ after agonising

Although one of my teammates was highly dismissive of my 6spade bid, I thought the contract was entirely reasonable at the time - especially played by East. At the table this time it was me, as East, who agonised before passing 6spade doubled, South led diamond8 (suit preference) and when North ruffed South was fully expecting +500 after a diamond return. North had other ideas and East escaped with -200, but still a board that cost us 26 IMP when West played in game at the other table. Why oh why did I not bid 6NT? Had I done so after North's double my partner would have racked up 12 tricks with aid of an end-play on South, or a show up squeeze on North, or a straightforward club finesse.
We lost that match by 25 IMPs and yet another I'd consigned to my ever growing nightmare collection.
