At the table declarer took an interesting line when he won in hand at trick two and led diamond2. Presumably he was playing for West to have diamond10x(x) or diamondJx(x), but although eventually he mistimed the play to go one light it need not have been like that. When West's king pops up it should not only pinpoint the diamond distribution but also the location of spadeA (on the bidding), so the hand moves rapidly towards a double-dummy analysis. West continues with heart4 at trick three so declarer should win in the dummy and lead diamond9 for a finesse, but East will split his honours as South wins in hand. Now South leads club10 ...
