West took nearly ten minutes to decide before eventually passing. Apparently West had been expecting East to be fretting a little about West's trump quality, and 6club was the agreed mechanism for an enquiry. When 6club was not forthcoming, West started to wonder why - with disastrous results.

The contract was slightly higher than 5NT in the other room - two levels, higher in fact....
