At the table South plumped for 4spade, and his partner made a crucial decision when he pushed all the way to a slam resulting a big swing. Unfortunately for North he decided to bid the slam in spades! Many of the lesser courtiers have been exhorting HRCJ to apply the axe more often and in this case she judged that the opposition would be hard pressed to find their cold grand slam. A trump suit of A10964 is a pleasing holding for someone defending a slam, and 6spade was duly defeated by two for +500. Although neither of our pairs reached 7heart, our result was still good enough to finish the night on a high note. Anyway, on to a more interesting hand from Wednesday night.
