Personally, I would tender a warped 2NT rather than bid an 'orrid 3club. If my dad played bridge, which he doesn't, I'm sure he would say "Don't bid poor suits with a 5-2-2-4 sixteen count, son". OK dad.

Well, what would you make of South's 5-2-2-4 sixteen count if North rebids 3club? As it is pairs, you might care to show false (maybe real?!) preference with 3heart. Or maybe rebid those juicy spades. Or support clubs...
