Let's be assertive for a change. If I was East I would be quite happy for my partner to pass on West's load of rubbish at pairs. It has a potential bucket load of losers and, apart from when East has a heart fit, there are unlikely to be many better spots as East is very likely to have five spades. It's quite likely that by bidding you will propel your side into an unmakeable contract, whereas passing will often coax North into a protective 1NT, suit overcall, or double. No doubt many of you will disagree - tough!
