After drawing trumps with the king and queen North played on clubs, praying for a 3-2 break. No luck there - West had four, so North had to decide whether to finesse a diamond or play for a red suit squeeze on East for the thirteenth trick. North is a player of some style and having made up his mind ruffed a fourth club, crossed to dummy's spadeA and cashed the fifth club, discarding diamondJ from hand. On the run of the remaining spades East was caught in an elegant criss-cross squeeze in the end position shown next.
