I've come up with a New Year's resolution - I have resolved not to drink beer before or during any bridge match. After breaking my own house rules and producing some dreadful bridge on Wednesday night, including a self-inflicted minus 1100 on the first board, my heartfelt thanks must go to Anthony Golding for some excellent therapy. After reading about one match where his team were 33 down after the first eight boards in a Middlesex teams match, I felt a whole lot better. Anthony did not make any excuses about excess alcohol, and he also sent in some interesting hands - the first of which poses an interesting bidding question.
