Another pair reached an alternative game after an extraordinary exhibition of Kamikaze bidding by East. A sympathetic North let him off the hook by bidding 4heart and eventually faced a lead of heart2 in a contract of 5club. North won West's heart10 with the ace and immediately led diamondQ. When East covered it was a simple matter to draw trumps, cash diamondJ throwing a heart, and attack spades. Declarer lost a trick in each major. But it didn't compensate for a possible 2200.
