At the table South bid 7!!!! There is a sort of logic to South's solution. If North was short in diamonds then he could ruff his losers in dummy, but if North had long diamonds then the suit would be cashable anyway. As you can see, dummy was a joy to behold, and we will never find out what declarer's excuses would have been had there been xxx in the North hand.
