Paradoxically enough, this side-suit-first approach should also be applied in 5club - you should cash some spades! If diamondK is wrong, almost assuredly so on the bidding, there is only one layout which could help - a singleton clubA with North. Only after cashing three rounds of spades to strip North do you broach trumps, and after cashing heartK North will be forced to lead into diamondAQ or concede a ruff and discard. If North is 2-2 in the black suits you will defeated, but there was never a winning line anyway. He will be end-played after ruffing the third round of spades, so you have exchanged diamondK for an extra trump loser.
