Declarer saw salvation in dummy's diamond holding and led diamondQ at trick two!! West won and continued spades, so declarer ruffed, crossed to clubA and led diamond10. What could East do? If he played low, declarer would now switch to clubs, but if he covered South would win diamondA and cross back to dummy's ten for the essential lead of club towards the queen. The lucky 3-3 heart break, 4-3 diamond break and favourable minor suit card positions conspired to allow South to bring home the contract, but only because he had also played the cards to the best advantage.
