Belladonna duly chose to double East's weak 2 rather than bid 2, which is what I imagine the vast majority of players would bid today. After his partner had made a strength cue-bid of 3 and a natural bid of 4, Belladonna had to decide what came next. 4 would be a cue-bid agreeing clubs, 4 would have been a suit and 4 would be long spades.
