North was the American Sylvia Moss, and she found the perfect answer when she bid 3spade. This could not be natural after East's double, and South construed the bid as asking for a spade stopper in No Trumps, so spadeQxx fitted the bill well after East's revealing bid.

West led a spade, so East cashed the first two tricks. The next trick was won by heartK but that was all that East-West could muster. North-South scored +430 and an excellent pairs score - no prizes for guessing where most of the other pairs played.
