I admit it all - I have been very economical with the truth, for West did not lead spade3 but actually heart4. So why did I lie? Well, anyone would have made the contract on the actual lead, wouldn't they, but had West decided to employ a classic but little known ruse by leading low from AQx of trumps, South might still be wondering whether to go in with the king from dummy. After all, only a madman (or genius) leads away from the queen of trumps in a slam, doesn't he?
