In the other room the Hackett twins found an absolutely brilliant defence against Tony McNiff's 4heart contract. A spade lead went to the king and East switched to ace and another club! Declarer had to ruff this, but what could he do now? The obvious line is to play a spade with the intention of ruffing a third round in dummy, but East won that and played another club. Not only did this promote a long trump winner for West, there was also clubK to come.

The actual swing on the board was 13 IMP to Rees where it could be have been 8 IMP to Crook. A huge swing in the context of a 20 IMPs overall win.
