This silly game of ours has a habit of kicking you in the teeth when you're too complacent or go into auto-pilot. I needed to lead a diamond at trick one. From here on a combination of the continuing diamond leads, poor trump break and West's heart holding means that if North tries to draw trumps he is likely to lose control - and 2club will go off! North can get home by finessing a heart at trick two and playing on cross ruff lines - including an unlikely ruff of the third round of diamonds with club10 - but would he have chosen to do so?

Well, should I have found the diamond lead?

P.S. What do make of South's 1NT bid? Surely Pass is much better!
