J is led from dummy and when East plays low, so does South. When West cannot produce the queen of spades it is very difficult to convince the novice declarer that he has cocked up the theoretically correct play of the spade suit - after all, it has produced three tricks. Usually the explanation is that East is also a complete beginner, but sometimes it is not so.
