One of the most frustrating aspects of being a bridge reporter (Nowheresville Gazette as opposed to the Daily Telegraph or Washington Post) is the incompleteness of the background information. Quite often someone will say, all fired up with enthusiasm, "I had this great hand last Sunday. I held ace-king to four spades, two small hearts ... or was it three small ... king-queen-ten to six diamonds, and ace to four clubs. Oh no, Kx of clubs - yeah that's it. So, I opened a diamond and West bid a heart .. or was it 2 . no, it was1 and partner bid, er.. anyway I ended up in 3NT and made it on a triple toe-loop, overhead kick, slam-dunk squeeze .... or was it 5?"
