You can see why I call East's 4NT unnatural, can't you? He might as well have punted 7club. Partner's imaginative 5diamond worked very well when I led diamond9 and he ruffed. A spade return ensured defeat by a single trick.
If I had been East or West I would have been
a)very annoyed about missing 7club
b)extremely annoyed about being defeated in 7club if we'd bid it
c)Shame-faced and embarrassed about picking up several IMPs by being one off in six. (v 7club doubled).

If East had passed 5diamond then that would have been nine off, and an interesting way to lose one IMP to a pair content to make just twelve tricks in 6club on heartK lead.
