It always amuses me to pick up a traveller and see huge discrepancies in the number of tricks scored in identical contracts. At pairs scoring, when every trick can be crucial, this phenomenon is less understandable than at teams, where many an overtrick has been conceded in a futile attempt to break a cast-iron contract. The other side of the same coin is that declarer will often take any tiny chance to bring home the bacon .. and usually conceding more undertricks than necessary.
