This is another deal where it's easier on paper presented as a problem than it was at the table. South ducked! He was then able to win the diamond (or club) return, draw trumps, cash the outstanding club winners and exit with a diamond. The opponents would then be forced to open up the hearts, thereby conceding two heart tricks or heartA and a ruff and discard.

+420 scored well, for many pairs overstretched, but the best scores came when the bidding went 2NT - 3NT. West led a diamond, and that was ten tricks.
