Taxi-man decided that there was a good chance of a diamond switch on losing the lead, even from West, and therefore it was incumbent to play for a favourable spade position. That meant playing East for spadeA and one other. Accordingly he won heartA in dummy and played spade10, low from East, king losing to the ace. West woodenly continued hearts, giving South renewed hope - but it was not to be. East knew what to do when he came in with spadeJ and immediately switched to diamondK. After the ace had been knocked out declarer could do no better than three off for -300.

This did not go well with 4spade just made in the other room, when declarer could afford to safety-play the trumps. I got what I fully deserved on this deal. Perhaps I should have stuck to driving taxis.
