As all parents know, their job is to provide food, shelter, love and far too much money for their kids. When they (the kids) reach the age of about four the parents' role metamorphoses into one of acting as a 24/7 taxi service. There were times I thought my son would start to play bridge seriously, but after making his first slam he duly retired at 15.
