Declarer ruffed in dummy and played a spade to the queen, ducked by East. North continued with spadeK but East won and found the best switch of a club. Declarer won in dummy and continued with clubQ, but West knew better than to cover. It was no good returning to hand with diamondA to draw trumps because declarer would be left with a diamond loser and, deprived of a the vital late entry in clubs, declarer was forced to continue with clubJ and hope for the best. It was no good, for East ruffed the third club with spade10.

Could declarer have done better?
