A couple of days later, one of my teammates remarked: You know you could have beaten that, don't you! I said that I knew that, indeed there were a number of ways I could have done so. Looking at the hand again, however, I realise that it took card-perfect defence to let it make! If I had played a different card to any of the first three tricks - any of the other cards in my hand - we'd have beaten it.

That was the second doubled contract I've let through against the same declarer within a few days, so I'm not defending doubled contracts against him again without seeing it two off in my own hand!
