Seeing the wonderful news of his partner's heart3 - showing an odd number - West decided to cast his net on one of the other sides and spade7 went to North's jack and East's queen. club9 was returned to West's clubK who naturally switched back to spades. North's king was scooped in with East's ace and after all the spades had been cashed there was still time for the defence to collect three more winners. When the smoke had cleared North was six off for minus 600 and exactly what he deserved for a ridiculous bid. The sad thing is that I suspect he, and a few thousand others, would do the same the next time a similar hand occurs.

Perhaps they could be cured by forcing them to play at TGRs for £1 a point - but I doubt it.
