At the table North continued with spade8!!!!!!!!!! Declarer played low from dummy and South's ten was won with the ace. Another club was won by South who played his part perfectly by switching to a low diamond, looking for all the world like a man dealt spadeKJ10. West ducked, won the diamond return and ruffed a club.

You can guess what happened next - declarer attempted to return to hand by ruffing a diamond, so North over-ruffed and led a fourth club to promote South's spadeJ for the setting trick. Inspired!
