That was your last chance to switch to a spade. Partner's thoughtful heart10 was meant as a signal to help you, even though you probably ought to have found the switch anyway. East's cheeky 3NT was a resourceful piece of attempted robbery - he realised that you must have a fit somewhere and that West might well have a heart stopper after the absence of a raise from North.

4spade by North has similar chances to East's 3NT. On the likely clubA lead dummy ruffs and a spade is won by declarer who ruffs a second club. West wins the next trick with spadeA and must immediately switch to a diamond when East must unblock and continue the suit. Again, not too difficult, but plenty of scope for defenders to go wrong on this hand.
