"1spade - automatic." do I hear? These days it's bad form to force on two suited hands - especially when void in partner's suit! It would interesting to hear from the rubber bridge pros how they would bid this one.

The original sequence suggested that not only should South force with 2spade, but also that he should bid and re-bid hearts!! Well, I must not knock their methods, for it certainly got the job done. Not surprisingly, North revalued his hand accordingly and bid the slam via the Culbertson 4-5 No Trump.
