# suit

In one room West opened a sporting, but entirely modern 3diamond. North eventually plumped for 6club, presumably to protect her major suit tenaces, but East was left with a straightforward lead of her partner's suit. With the dearth of entries to dummy, North could not arrange for an extra trick and drifted one off.

In the room where East had a "blind" lead, her choice of spadeQ was fatal for the defence. Declarer was able to cash her clubs and eventually take a successful spade finesse, courtesy of her spade108 and the fall of West's nine at trick one.
