The two metre TV was blaring away in the corner of the main office of election HQ. The picture showed Peter Snow (of swingometer fame) who was interviewing Anthony King, Professor of Government at Essex University, about the format of the election matches and the methods used by the various political parties to select their candidates for the parliamentary seats.
"Well Peter, the format to decide each seat is multiple Swiss teams of four over 24 boards, with a maximum of six players per team. The candidate is the team captain and he must play all 24 boards - a test of extreme pressure following several weeks of hard electioneering, for every card he plays will be scrutinised by thousands."
