Shenkin led heartA, followed with another, and his partner ruffed. North was effectively end-played but exited smoothly with ace and a small club. When East's jack held all was clear - North was reluctant to exit with a trump or diamond and could be end-played again when East ruffed his last club and exited with two rounds of trumps. Whether North played a diamond into the tenace or conceded a ruff and discard East was cold for nine tricks.

Or should have been. East had played heartK from dummy at trick two and eventually had to concede a fifth trick to North's diamondK.
