. . . but not as Reese hoped and expected. South made eleven tricks and plus 990. That is not all, for East-West cannot be prevented from making all thirteen tricks with spades as trumps!! East ruffs the opening heart lead and ruffs a club. A spade to dummy and another club ruff establishes the clubs, so declarer plays two rounds of trumps ending in dummy and claims.

The 2NT was another famous and very successful psyche, this time made by Harold Ogust who was playing with Howard Schenken for the USA against Great Britain in the 1960 Olympiad.
