~ Michaels, heart and a minor

North was absolutely right about East's decision not to double, but unfortunately his vision of the possible layout was slightly awry. South had chosen to take a very off-centre view of his big hand instead of doubling. Never mind, South must have been vaguely pleased to have made fewer than twelve tricks, for any North-South playing in a heart slam would probably go down.

You can soon see where you would want to play this hand - 7club. Imagine West leads a trump. South wins and plays heartA, ruffs a heart and cashes two spades discarding diamonds from hand. South enters hand, ruffs another heart and draws trumps. +1440
