North seemed reluctant to switch to a heart in case declarer held the jack. Instead he led a small diamond, which ran round to the jack and queen. West led diamond10 and it was North's turn again after winning with the ace. Still refusing to open up the hearts he tried the effect of a trump, won by declarer who immediately led spade3 and finessed the eight. Dummy's two diamonds were cashed as declarer ditched two hearts and North followed helplessly. Dummy exited with heartK and it was now South's turn to be helpless.

Whatever he returned, all three E-W trumps would score separately. East-West +670
