In the closed room Jeff Meckstroth bid his spades twice and was doubled for his troubles. Tony Forrester led diamondJ and Andy Robson ducked as South, allowing diamondQ to make. That was the first mistake, but another followed rapidly when declarer led clubJ at trick two. Forrester inexplicably flashed in with clubA to lead another diamond. Declarer subsequently played a ruffing finesse against South's clubK and club10 became declarer's parking space for a losing heart - the other being ruffed in dummy. Declarer lost two hearts and one each in the black suits. 3spade doubled made. Scientists +730.

For the record, the scientists won the match by a large margin.
