At single dummy, 6diamond appeared to be a decent contract. If declarer avoids either an initial trump lead or a trump switch after losing the first heart, 6diamond would have been very easy. Even with the trump lead, the contract seemed to have many chances - say, trumps split two/two, and/or hearts breaking evenly.

Modesty prevents Dick from explaining exactly how 6diamond made when all these chances failed to materialise - so I'll tell you instead.

Suffice it to say he's heard about the Principle of Restricted Choice!
