Declarer realised that in addition to the chance of establishing dummy's spades, there was an extra possibility of a successful partial elimination.

Accordingly, she ruffed her second club in dummy and exited with spadeK without drawing the last opposition trump. East was duly end-played and, rather than lead into dummy's hearts, decided to concede a ruff and discard on which Pony discarded a spade from hand as she ruffed in dummy.
